Self care for business chicks
If you're feeling a little 'meh' as you go about your daily business it might be because you're stuck in some routines that are, quite frankly, boring! Sometimes when we work a 9-5 there's not a lot we can do to change up our routines (except for a beach holiday occasionally ...cocktail anyone?) and the sameness of every day can stifle our sense of adventure and spontaneity.
So, today I've come up with seven ways to inject some magic in to your day and create a little 'me' time when you're busy taking care of business.
1. Mini Medi - is there a quiet place you can sneak off to during the day for 5 minutes? Some days when I feel like I am having trouble focusing or if I feel headachy a 5 minute mini mediation session can change everything. Simply grab your phone and headphones, take yourself away from your desk and tune in to a short meditation. This technique has changed my life and on many occasions has cured a headache.
2. Stop and stretch - your body loves to move and what better way to thank your body for serving you every day than to reset those aching joints and muscles with a few easy stretches. you can stretch your body any time while you're at work even while you're sitting at your desk.
3. Drink cool water - this is a simple one that I enjoy while I am at work - rinsing out and filling up my water bottle with chilled water is a simple joy for me while I am at work. It's cooling, refreshing and when I drink cool water throughout the day I know I am giving my body what it needs to stay hydrated and focussed
4. Get out in nature - Get outside at every opportunity you can! If you can take a good lunch break be sure to move away from your desk and find somewhere outside to sit and eat your lunch. Even in the city there are little sanctuaries tucked away so see what you can find in your local environment. My day job has a lovely outside garden area next to a huge Jacaranda tree so there's grass, birds and lizards everywhere. It's so inviting and I take every opportunity I can to have lunch outside on a sunny day.
5. Rise early. Have you ever woken early before the rest of the household? It can often be a magical experience .. the house is quiet, the phone is not beeping, the sun is rising, the birds are chirping. It's a special time of day. Wake up early and spend your extra time doing some yoga or simple stretches, you could do a short meditation, write in your journal. you can even take a few minutes to enjoy breakfast and a hot tea or coffee at home.
6. Mid-week pamper. Celebrate hump day with a pamper session! Light a scented candle, make yourself a delicious bubble bath and soak your worries and stresses away! what a beautiful, relaxing way to recharge your batteries and get ready to power through the rest of the work week.
7. Random act of kindness. What goes around comes around! Being kind to others is such an awesome way to create magic in your day ... and someone else's. Shout a co-worker coffee; help someone carry parcels to the mail room, give someone a compliment and tell them how much you appreciate them. You'll feel amazing!
